Sasquatch Books

Illustration | Art Direction | Production Design

As a Pacific Northwest native I know a thing or two about the haunted landmarks of the area. Coupled with my love for all things spooky I was honored and terribly excited to illustrate a book dedicated to the supernatural inclinations of a region so close to my heart

From my imagination, to my sketchbook, to my ipad I composed and illustrated 50 full page spreads and a handful of spot illustrations. Partnering with the incredibly talented team at Sasquatch Books we developed a cadence of more involved illustrations paired with chapter illustrations using a singular focal point to create an elegant flow between heartier stories and the haunted snippets that make up Northwest Know How: Haunts.

Northwest Know-How

Haunts is the fourth installment of the entertaining, educational, and highly giftable Northwest Know-How Series. From the many haunted spots of Seattle’s Pioneer Square and Pike Place Market to Oregon’s haunted hotels, lighthouses, and theaters, this book uncovers the events that inspired the hauntings as well as the reports of the hauntings themselves. My job was to bring these places and specters to life, or rather, to afterlife.

With a bold but darker color palette and a textured illustration style inspired by victorian-era etchings I wanted these illustrations to feel modern while evoking another time. And because I am who I am, and there was no budget for a photoshoot, I took it upon myself (with the help of a dear friend) to art direct and produce a few editorial images to celebrate and showcase the finished piece.
